ask someone to cook for you
When I was a kid, I was very lucky and I didn’t know it. Like most kids, I took everything for granted. Let’s take food as an example.
Often, my mom asked me or my siblings:
– What would you like for lunch? What would you like for dinner?
We were so spoiled that most of the time, we replied:
– I don’t know…
– Is there nothing you want to eat?
Today, when I’m out of idea for dinner menus- and this happens pretty often because I don’t have enough time to think about it- I ask my kids:
– What would you like for dinner? Is there anything you want to eat?
This answer is frustrating. And the whole process- finding different and healthy ideas every day- exhausting.
And as if this wasn’t enough, when I cook, food doesn’t taste as good as when someone else does.
It’s like wearing perfume. You can’t smell the one you’re wearing the way others smell it.
Yesterday, I wanted to do things differently.
It was Sunday.
Hubby, the kids and I had brunch in a dinner, we went out for a walk. Then I took a nap.
The day was chill. I wanted to keep taking it easy.
Before going to the coffee shop to write, I asked Hubby to make dinner for me: find an idea, go shopping and feed me.
Back home at 9 PM, he served dinner while I was putting my pajamas on and getting ready for an episode of the new TV show we’re watching together.
It felt great to come, put my feet under the table, be taken care of. And have nothing to do except chew and taste.
Now please, don’t ask me about this last word. Taste.
Otherwise -and because I have promised I’d be totally honest on this journey- I would have to tell the truth.
And the truth is if you want this experience to be a 100% success and you want to ask someone to cook for you –sorry Hubby, sorry – you’d better ask someone who knows how to do it 😉
WHY IS IT SELF-CARE? Having someone cook for you = no need to find menu ideas, no need to shop, no need to cook. It’s very relaxing to have a break from time to time.
