practice yin yoga at home

40 minutes – 1 h

If you’ve always wanted to do yoga and didn’t know what to start with, I highly recommend that you take a Yin Yoga class.

And if you’ve never tried it, know that I envy you, my friends! (those of you who are familiar with Yin know what I’m talking about, right?)

To me, it’s the most effortless and the most intense yoga of all. Paradoxical? Not exactly.

Why is it the most effortless?

Because you’re on the floor and the class consists in a series of passive postures: you do a gentle posture, relax and hold it for 2 to 6 minutes.

That’s it.

But why is it so intense then?

Because the more you stay in a posture, the deeper your body goes into it. Your connective tissues and your joints stretch, your muscles relax and the work gets done, deeply. It’s almost like a massage, but from the inside.

You can expect/experience one or more of the following with Yin:

– Improve your flexibility
– Relax and release tensions
– Calm your mind
– Circulate the energy in your body
– Increase the mobility of the joints and hips

The first time I took a Yin Class was 4 years ago in California. The experience was amazing!

While I was stretching, I got so relaxed that I got into this series of uncontrollable yawns, one after the other, for 30 minutes or so. It was really funny because I contaminated the whole class. Then during the final relaxation posture (Savasana), I just fell asleep .

Between us, I loved the fact that I had slept and could still say: yeah, I took a yoga class today

When I woke up, I had a clear mind with an extraordinary accurate perception of the world around me.

Since then, I’ve been taking Yin classes regularly and practicing on my own also.

Yesterday evening, my right shoulder blade was hurting me, probably because I spent the whole day sitting in front of my laptop.

So after I put the kids to bed, I did a Yin sequence for 40 minutes.

It was great. So great that I had an energy boost and couldn’t fall asleep (probably because I picked an energizing sequence and it worked too well).

So dear friends who’ve never tried it:
1. I highly recommend that you do
2. Find a studio near you that offers Yin classes to start with.

And also, if you want more info, let me know. A lot of my yoga teacher friends will be happy to help you know more about it. Just leave a comment below to let me know.

Did you like this post? Please share it. It would mean a lot to me and help your friends take better care of themselves.

WHY IS IT SELF-CARE?  Yin Yoga is a very gentle type of yoga. It is great for both
physical and emotional balance.

Whether you practice Yin Yoga in class or at home, make sure you’re wearing comfy and WARM clothes.

Because you don’t move much during the class, your body temperature drops and it’s not pleasant to hold the postures while you’re cold.

If you’re a beginner, I recommend that you take a class in a studio. You will learn how to engage in a posture correctly and hold it.

If you already practice Yoga, there are a lot of different types of sequences online: for hips, for winter, to relax, to get more energy…

Love to all.
