Happy New Year to all! I wish you all a healthy, happy and wealthy year. I can’t wait to see you all in 2017 and in the meanwhile, here is my last act of self-care of the year.

Yesterday, I walked around my neighborhood and enjoyed the Christmas decorations before they’re gone. Even if I was born and raised in Morocco, where we (usually) don’t celebrate Christmas, I love the spirit of this time of year in the US.

From Halloween to New Year’s eve, there is excitement in the air. First, kids are impatient to dress up and go Trick-or-Treating. Then, parents can’t wait to gather their whole families for Thanksgiving. Then comes Christmas, and Santa and his reindeer. And finally New Year’s eve. Each of these moments carries magic. And each of these moments makes me happy.

But in a couple days, this time of year will be gone: my neighbors will turn their lights off. And winter will start.

So I wanted to live one last time the happiness of this enchanted moment. I walked with the kids, and –house after house- we enjoyed the decorations. I could almost touch this universal feeling of love people have for their families and traditions. Tonight, my heart was joyful and full.

Happy new year to all!

With love.

MORE ABOUT THIS

I have two things to tell you here:

1. You don’t want to be freezing in the cold and still have to walk 20 minutes to get back to your house or car. So make sure you wear the appropriate clothing: hat, gloves, warm jacket and shoes.

2. If you’re in the US and really like the Christmas lights, you can go on a Christmas Lights road trip. Check a few itineraries at onlyinyourstate.com. Click here for more.
